Cost-Benefit Analyses How do you calculate the cost-benefit ratio of a computer system for the ED? Costs include money, manpower, and mental energy and frustration, and benefits include money, efficiency, quality of patient care and quality of work environment for staff. Dr. Conover provides you with four resources for learning about computers in the ED, from most basic and general to most complex and ED-specific.
Buyer Evaluation Checklist A complete compilation of all the relevant questions Keith Conover could think of related to computer tracking systems for the Emergency Department. This is presented in list form, rather than as a grid. Part of the 1996 Pennsylvania ACEP program on evaluating and selecting computer systems for the ED.
Evaluation Guidelines An excellent set of guidelines for the evaluation and specification of an ED tracking system, as developed by Keith Conover for Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh. This document is accompanied by a checklist table form than cannot be viewed online in a meaningful way, but can be downloaded and printed out using Microsoft Word (see next entry).
